NICK FALDO JOINS THE GOLF CHANNEL TEAM
ORLANDO, FLORIDA - July 11, 2006 - The Golf Channel announced today that six-time major winner and popular golf analyst Nick Faldo will join its team of broadcasters, and will serve as the network's main analyst for PGA TOUR coverage.
Faldo's multi-year agreement will commence in 2007 when The Golf Channel will kick off its 15-year partnership with the PGA TOUR as the exclusive cable home for its official money events. Viewers will first see him during the network's full, four-round coverage of the first three events on the 2007 tournament calendar, which include the Mercedes Championships, Sony Open and Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
"Adding someone of Nick's caliber to our team will be a great asset to our network," said David Manougian, chief executive officer of The Golf Channel. "And because of his versatility and various interests, we can explore ideas for him other than solely golf telecasts."
"Nick's incomparable style, intimate knowledge of the game and credibility as a six-time major winner will take our coverage to the next level," said Golf Channel Executive Producer Tony Tortorici.
"I am very excited to be joining The Golf Channel team," said Faldo. "I've gained some valuable experience and insight into broadcasting over the last couple of years, and I am now looking forward to taking it to the next level. With The Golf Channel's long-term commitment to the TOUR it really was an easy decision for me to make. Together we are excited about the prospect of building a new team and giving the consumer a great insight into the world of golf, with some entertainment along the way."
Faldo has been one of golf's most compelling personalities, both on and off the course. His playing credentials include 42 worldwide victories - three Masters and three Open Championship titles, and 11 Ryder Cup appearances - and he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1997. His business interests are considerable and range from golf instruction schools, golf course design, hotels and restaurants and estate wines. Currently, his work as co-analyst for ABC Sports' golf coverage has garnered him critical acclaim. The Golf Channel's annual coverage will feature early-round coverage of the entire FedEx Cup season, including the World Golf Championships, THE TOUR Championship - the official end of the points' season that will determine the FedEx Cup winner and provide what will be sports' largest payoff - and THE PLAYERS Championship, the PGA TOUR's crown jewel.
