A native of Granville, Ohio, Gaul graduated from Ferris State University in Michigan, with a degree in Professional Golf Management. Gaul began his golf career while still in college, working part time at Marriott's Grande Vista Resort in Orlando, Florida. There he developed an interest in instruction and received certification in the Faldo teaching philosophy.
Gaul joined the Marriott Golf team full-time in 2004, upon graduation, as a Certified Instructor for the Faldo Golf Institute at Shadow Ridge. In this position, he is responsible for instructing golfers of all skill levels through several educational methods, including golf schools, golf clinics and private lessons.
